Newman Knocks Off Park in MCAC Men's Soccer Tournament Semifinal

Wichita, Kan.- The fourth-seeded Newman University Jets men's soccer team handed Park University its first loss of the season on Friday afternoon, 2-1 in the semifinals of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Jets advance to face the winner of the York College/Bellevue University match in the MCAC final on Saturday at 3 p.m.

All matches in the MCAC Tournament are being played at Park University's Julian Field in Parkville, Mo.

Park had a 1-0 lead at the half. Newman came back in the second half on goals by Paul Harvey and Jose Rovello to put away the win. Rovello assisted on Harvey's goal, while Stephen Ralos got the assist on the game winner.

Newman All-America goalkeeper Martin Jones had three saves in each half for the Jets on the way to his 11th win of the year. Park goalkeeper Scott Woods had only one save on the game, coming in the first half.

The conference tournament champion receives an automatic berth in the six-team Region IV tournament, which begins November 12.

The 14 regional champions, along with two at-large invitees, each gain a berth in the 2002 NAIA National Tournament to be played November 21-26 in Bowling Green, Ky.
