Newman University Men's Soccer Releases 2002 Schedule

Wichita, Kan.- The Newman University Jets men's soccer team will open the season in Georgia, starting August 31 against 12th-ranked Berry College, Mt. Berry, Ga. This is the second year in a row the team has opened with a weekend in Georgia.

Berry College is one of four teams on the Jets' schedule ranked in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) preseason top 25. Newman is ranked 24th in the preseason poll.

Seventh-ranked Oklahoma Christian College comes to Newman on Saturday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jets will travel to Shawnee, Okla. to take on 15th-ranked St. Gregory's University on Wednesday, September 18, and will play host to #14 Hastings College, Neb. on Sunday, October 27. Hastings beat Newman in last year's Region IV championship game at Hastings, Neb. to earn a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.

Newman opens it's 2002 home slate on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m. against new Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) member Central Christian College, Manhattan, Kan.

Other MCAC home games this year are Sunday, September 22 against Haskell Indians Nations University of Lawrence, Kan. and Sunday, October 20 versus Park University, Parkville, Mo.

Missing from the schedule this year is a Highway 54 Cup match with Wichita rival Friends University. It would have been a road game this year for the Jets.

The schedule is available at https://jetsoccer.tripod.com/2002sched.html, or by calling the Newman Athletics office at 316-942-4291, ext. 118.

Newman will play ten home matches and eight on the road during the regular season.
