Newman University Men's Soccer Hosts Park In Match For Conference Supremacy
Wichita, Kan.-
The Newman University Jets men's soccer team will host Park University, Parkville,
Mo., on Sunday, October 20 in a Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference match-up.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Wilkins Field on the Newman campus.
Newman enters the game at 11-2-1, on a four game winning streak and ranked #17 in the nation. The Jets are 4-1 in the MCAC.
The Jets have been very stingy on the field this season, having surrendered only 5 goals on the year. All-American goalkeeper Martin Jones will be shooting for his 10th shutout of the season to improve his paper-thin .18 goals against average.
The Jets will count on that defense, along with the evenly distributed scoring efforts they have gotten up front this season, to try and take down Park and regain the MCAC regular season crown.
Park comes into the game ranked #9 in the nation with a record of 12-0-2. The Pirates currently sit atop the MCAC men's soccer standings with a 3-0-1 record.
Park defeated the Jets last year 1-0 in Wichita. Newman and Park have played many times over the years, but this is the first conference meeting between the two. Park became a member of the MCAC before this season.
The Jets women's team will
be taking on the Park women prior to the men's game. Women's kickoff is scheduled
for 3 p.m., and that game is also for the conference championship.
