Spring Schedule Takes Shape Newman men's head coach Cliff Brown has lined up a few strenuous tests for the Jets this spring, including matches against two NCAA Division 1 opponents. On March 1, the Jets will travel to Tulsa for a busy day of soccer. The Newman squad will take on both University of Tulsa and Oral Roberts University, each on their own home fields. Both are D1 teams that have had some success at that level in the recent past. On March 22, Newman will host Dodge City Community College. The Conqs are coached by former Newman player Adam Hunter, who brought his team to Wichita to take on the Jets prior to the fall 2002 season as well. The Laszlo Stumpfhauser Tournament will be held this year on April 26 & 27. Coach Brown does plan to take part, although plans have yet to be finalized. The tourney, hosted by Wichita State at the Stryker Complex, was cancelled last year due to bad weather. Former Jets Help Ensure Future Quality of Jets Soccer
Newman
competes for talented players with colleges throughout the region, and
increasingly, the nation. Several Newman recruits show an interest in
Newman, but receive better offers from schools with higher athletic budgets.
Help from alumni of the program at Newman can make a difference in recruiting top quality athletes and bring better teams to the Newman campus. Anyone interested in making a contribution of any size to the future of Newman soccer should contact Coach Brown at 316-942-4291, ext. 197.
Andover High midfielder Jon Harris and Kapaun-Mt. Carmel defender Kelly Waugh have signed letters of intent to play soccer at Newman in the fall of 2003. Harris was a key component of the Andover High squad that was a Kansas State semi-finalist in 2002. He earned places on the All-State second team for 4A schools, as well as first team All-Region and honorable mention in the Chisholm Trail League. Waugh led a stingy Kapaun defense that was near the top of the Kansas 5A for the past several years. Several other strong players from the Wichita area have been on campus since the beginnning of the year. Look for more recruiting information here.
You may have been distracted or upset by the ads that pop-up in front of this Web page as you try to keep up with Newman men's soccer. Soon, there will be a way to check it out without that frustration. With the help of former Newman player Frank Rattay, we have acquired our own domain name and hosting at www.jetsoccer.com. We hope to have the new site available by the end of February. The address is different, the content will be the same or better, only without the annoying ads. You can continue to look for information here for several months as we try to make the transition easier. However, typing in this Web address will redirect you to our new site. So enjoy, and keep checking back. And remember, a little help and communication from you can help our program and our site continue to progress. |
